Day 1 Nairobi

Once a swamp but now called the 'green city in the sun', Nairobi is a relatively multicultural city with a range of cuisines, museums and cultural centres to enjoy.

Day 2 Lake Naivasha

Meaning 'rough water' in Maasai due to the occurrence of sudden storms, Lake Naivasha's surface is also broken by the yawns of hippos and countless birds flying across its surface.

Days 3-4 Lake Nakuru

Often shrouded in a carpet of pink flamingos, beautiful Lake Nakuru - and the surrounding national park - is home to a great number of wildlife and bird species.

Days 5-6 Mt Kenya

A small market town near the slopes of Mt Kenya, Naro Maru is the perfect base to take on the mountain or explore the nearby Ol Pejeta Conservancy.

Days 7-8 Samburu National Reserve

The Ewaso Ngiro River winds through the sunburnt plains of the Samburu National Reserve, a wonderful place to see an abundance of wild animals and birdlife.

Days 9-10 Marsabit/Moyale

Surrounded by forests, Marsabit is a beautiful town on the extinct volcano of Mount Marsabit. Sitting on the border of Kenya and Ethiopia, Moyale is a market town with a nice atmosphere.

Day 11 Konso

A gateway to the Omo Valley, Konso lies in a region on the banks of the Sagan River where local traditions are strongly upheld.

Days 12-14 Omo Valley

The Omo Valley region is home to many different tribes all living very close to one another, each with their own cultures, traditions and way of life.

Days 15-16 Arba Minch

Taking its name from the streams found between the two Rift Valley lakes of Abaya and Chamo, Arba Minch has stunning views over the lakes and surrounding forests.

Days 17-18 Wondo Genet/Awassa

Known for its hot springs and beautiful panoramas, the resort town of Wondo Genet is surrounded by primary forests, wildlife and abundant water. A town on the shores of Lake Awassa in the Great Rift Valley, Awassa is home to a community project that provides housing and education to local AIDS orphans.

Days 19-21 Bale Mountain National Park

Situated on a high plateau surrounded by mountain peaks which soar to over 4000 metres, Bale Mountains National Park is home to unique wildlife and hundreds of bird species.

Day 22 Lake Ziway

One of the freshwater Rift Valley lakes, the beautiful islands of Lake Ziway are home to the Zay people, as well as a healthy population of birds and hippopotami.

Days 23-25 Addis Ababa

More commonly referred to as 'Addis', Addis Ababa lies among wooded hills at an altitude of about 2300 metres, giving it a pleasant climate.

Day 26 Debre Markos

Debre Markos is a city located in east-central Ethiopia and was named after its principal church which was constructed in 1869.

Days 27-29 Bahir Dar

Located on the shores of Lake Tana and only a few hundred metres from the source of the mighty Blue Nile, Bahir Dar is a fascinating place.

Days 30-32 Lalibela

Hidden in the hills of northern Ethiopia is the small town of Lalibela. This medieval village has grown up around 13 monolithic churches hewn from rock in the 12th century.

Day 33 Bush Camp

Spend the night in a bush camp near the hillside market town of Woldiya.

Day 34 Mekele

A cultural town with a long and colourful history, Mekele is famous for its churches and desert landscape.

Days 35-36 Aksum

The site of Ethiopia's oldest city, Aksum has some impressive obelisks carved from single blocks of granite - the tallest still standing is 23 metres high.

Day 37 Adi Arkay

Adi Arkay is a small town in northern Ethiopia.

Day 38 Debark

Standing at the gateway to the Simien Mountains, the town of Debark has some of the most amazing scenery in Ethiopia.

Days 39-41 Simien Mountains National Park

Jagged mountain peaks flank deep valleys and high altitude plains in one of Africa's major mountain regions. The Simien Mountains are known for their dramatic and spectacular scenery.

Days 42-44 Gonder

Historic Gonder is known as the city of castles and palaces. This was once the capital of Ethiopia during the reign of King Fasilidas, who built the first castle.
