Sinai Trek Summary

Add to Shortlist

Day 1 Cairo

Get caught up in the chaotic urban rush that is Cairo. Perhaps arrive early and head over to the iconic Pyramids of Giza and Great Sphinx for a visual masterclass of ancient Egyptian architecture.

Days 2-3 Jebel Sarabit

Leave the beeping horns and noisy marketplaces of Cairo behind and head for the Gulf of Suez, following the scenic Sinai Peninsula to Sarabit El Khadem, where the trek begins. Pass ancient mining sites, imposing mountains and towering dunes before heading for the summit of Jebel Sarabit – a challenging hike that offers some truly unbelievable views over the peninsula.

Day 4 Jebel Sarabit

Begin the morning with a trek to Wadi Tellah. On reaching Wadi Tellah, stop off at a remote herb garden for an insight into traditional Bedouin medicine and a rejuvenating lunch. Continue on towards the base of the Sefsafa Mountains on the journey to St Catherine's Monastery.

Day 5 Wadi el Arbeen

Head for the famous St Catherine’s Monastery, built on what is believed to be the sight of the Burning Bush. Spend time learning about this holy site before preparing for the trek to the summit of Mt Sinai.

Day 6 Mount Sinai/St Catherine

Wake very early to travel to Mount Moses to begin the trek up the mountain. See the sunrise at the summit and marvel at incredible views of the sun illuminating the Sinai. Descend to Wadi El Arbeen camp for a welcomed breakfast. Depending on energy levels, choose from a longer or shorter trek - both are full of wonderful desert scenery.

Days 7-8 Cairo

Bid farewell to the Sinai Peninsula and head back to the lively streets of Cairo.
