Galapagos Family - Enchanted Islands Itinerary

Arrive in Quito and breathe in its incredible views of nearby mountains and volcanoes. Explore the colonial charms of its city centre on a walking tour and leave town for the chance to visit the equator, from which the country takes its name.

Head west to the enchanted islands that so inspired Darwin. Meet the crew and board the yacht that will be home for the coming days before heading off into the blue in the direction of the easternmost island, San Cristobal.

Moor up and explore the island’s marine paradise. Snorkel across the pristine coral reefs and look out for some of the Galapagos Islands’ underwater residents, including rays and sea turtles. Climb into a kayak and spend some time paddling, watching out for some of the amazing birdlife that the archipelago is renowned for.

Set sail for this island and be greeted by sea lions on arrival. The inhospitable terrain has helped create a haven for sea birds and Espanola is especially famous for its large colony of waved albatrosses. Try to spot blue-footed boobies as well as red marine iguanas while here and marvel at the famous blowhole, where seawater explodes through the rocks to create a geyser effect.

Land on one of the oldest islands in the Galapagos. Marvel at the green sand beach that greets its visitors and follow the trail past wonderful flora to the lagoon inhabited by pink flamingos. Spend some time snorkelling around the Devil’s Crown reef to come face to face with dazzling shoals of colourful fish and sea urchins.

Trek to Sierra Negra, the oldest and largest of the island’s volcanoes yet still active. Walk past lava fields and craters to reach the rim and be rewarded by magnificent views of the vast, steaming caldera.

Explore the lunar landscape of Bartoleme, climb up an old volcano and enjoy breathtaking views across the island. Cross the highlands of Santa Cruz in search of giant tortoises and lava tubes. Then take advantage of the crystal-clear waters to snorkel and kayak with penguins.

After this action-packed cruise, it’s time to leave the magical splendours and serenity of the Galapagos islands behind and return to Quito. Swap the archipelago’s natural display for the capital’s picturesque setting and wind up this exciting family adventure with a final night in this laidback city.
