About Ecuador

Classic Galapagos - Southern Islands (Queen Beatriz) Standard Twin Summary

Add to Shortlist

Quito is a cultured city with a wonderous Old Town, a dynamic nightlife and atmospheric streets showcasing Ecuadorian life in all its splendour.

Located in north-eastern Santa Cruz, Punta Carrion is a shallow and protected cove with plentiful marine life, ideal for snorkelling and swimming.

The largest island in the archipelago, Isla Isabela was formed by five giant volcanic craters, all of which are still considered active. Visit Las Tintoreras a marine iguana's nursery area, snorkel and observe sea lions and Galapagos penguins and finish off at a Tortoise breeding centre.

A highlight of any Galapagos cruise, Isla Floreana is rich in natural wonders and wildlife, including seabirds such as boobies, pelicans and frigates. Discover the quirky maritime history of Post Office Bay.

Isla Santa Cruz is home to the Charles Darwin Research Station The station's visitor centre and museum are essential stops for anyone interested in the archipelago's natural and human history, and keen to learn more about conservation efforts to preserve the unique ecosystems of the Galapagos. It also offers visitors their best chance for close-up encounters with giant tortoises. The Highlands of Santa Cruz are home to the unique Scalesia cloud forest where you will find different species of Darwin finches and possibly the world famous woodpecker.

Day 6 Plaza Sur & Santa Fe

Isla Santa Fe is a lovely place to take a dip with sea lions and its cacti forests are host to a unique sub-species of land iguanas.

Due to its remote location, Isla Espanola has a large population of endemic birdlife and its coastline provides excellent opportunities to see reef sharks, turtles and tropical fish. Gardner Beach is considered by many as one of the most beautiful beaches in the Galapagos Islands and full of California sea lions and Hood Mocking birds. A walk along the trails of Punta Suarez offers us some magical panoramas.

The eastern-most island in the Galapagos, San Cristobal Island offers an array of animals and activities. An early morning walk with playful Sea Lions, Frigate Birds and Blue Footed Boobies, some snorkelling at Kicker Rock followed by a Panga Ride to Cerro Brujo where the volcanic formations are breathtaking.

San Cristobal's Interpretation Centre brings the history and geography of the Galapagos archipelago to life, from its volcanic origins to discovery, colonisation and the present day.

Quito's impressive Old Town is full of picturesque streets and historic buildings - there are more than 30 churches to explore, as well as fascinating museums and lively plazas.
