About Ecuador

Classic Galapagos - Central Eastern Islands (Queen Beatriz) Standard Twin Summary

Add to Shortlist

Quito is a cultured city with a wonderous Old Town, a dynamic nightlife and atmospheric streets showcasing Ecuadorian life in all its splendour.

The eastern-most island in the Galapagos, a variety of seabirds nest on Isla San Cristobal, including blue-footed boobies, red-footed boobies and frigates.

Inhospitable to most plants and animals, Isla Bartolome is one of the most spectacular volcanic landscapes in the Galapagos, full of parasitic spatter cones, lava flows and Bombs, the famous Pinnacle Rock and Galapagos penguins and lava lizards

Isla Santiago features some of the most idyllic locations in the archipelago, including Espumilla Beach, Buccaneer Cove and the black sands of Puerto Egas.

Isla Santa Cruz is home to the Charles Darwin Research Station The station's visitor centre and museum are essential stops for anyone interested in the archipelago's natural and human history, and keen to learn more about conservation efforts to preserve the unique ecosystems of the Galapagos. It also offers visitors their best chance for close-up encounters with giant tortoises.

Day 6 North Seymour & Isla Mosquera

The walking trail along Isla North Seymour's rocky coast passes colonies of blue-footed boobies and magnificent frigate birds, who share the same nesting grounds on the island. The small sandy island of Mosquera is a picturesque spot to relax on the beach and watch Sally Lightfoot crabs looking for food among the rocks and tide pools.

The peaceful waters of Black Turtle Cove - a mangrove wetland on the north coast of Isla Santa Cruz - are a wonderful place to see green turtles, Galapagos sharks and abundant birdlife.

One of the archipelago's most striking islands, Isla Rabida has fascinating indigenous wildlife, unique red-sand beaches and a saltwater lagoon where flamingos can often be seen.

Located on the north shore of Isla Santa Cruz, the beautiful beaches of Las Bachas have particularly soft sand and the nearby rocks provide great snorkelling.

Stretched out along a central Andean valley under the gaze of Volcan Pichincha, Quito is one of the most attractive cities in South America.
