Days 1-2 Hong Kong
Arrive early to fully enjoy the many sights of Hong Kong. Take advantage of the vibrant nightlife or hit the markets to snare a bargain. The overnight train from the Chinese border to Guilin is a fascinating experience.
Days 3-5 Yangshuo
Transfer from Guilin to rural China. The Li River winds its way around thousands of limestone karst mountains through Yangshuo. Take a cycling tour into the countryside to gain an insight into rural life and eat lunch at a farmhouse or local cafe. Optional activities abound, so why not kayak down the river or take a tai chi class?
Days 6-7 Shanghai
See a performance of famous Shanghai acrobatics and spend free time exploring this thriving metropolis. Stroll along the Bund to see a spectacular array of art deco buildings, explore the old French Concession area or go in search of the ultimate Chinese feast. To get away from it all, head to Yuyuan Garden to seek out the Exquisite Jade Rock and take in the peaceful surrounds. Explore the treasures of the fascinating Shanghai Museum.
Days 8-10 Xi'an
Take a tour to the famous Terracotta Warriors, who lay undiscovered for 2,200 years. These ancient figures lined up facing east in battle formation. Explore the sights of the former imperial city of Xi'an.
Days 11-14 Beijing
Explore Tiananmen Square and the Forbidden City with a local guide. The Great Wall, an incredible feat of engineering, stretches westwards over 6,000 km from the mountain ridges north of Beijing. See it up close on a day trip before a final night out in lively Beijing.

On 07 June the Australian Government issued an updated travel warning for East Timor strongly advising against travel to East Timor because of the extremely dangerous security situation. Australians in the country are advised to leave. The Travel Warning remains at Category 5 - Do Not Travel.
On Tuesday 07 June we have taken the decision to cancel the remainder of our East Timor trips scheduled to depart in 2006. All travellers will be notified and given the opportunity to transfer to another trip or obtain a full refund (land content only). We very much regret having to take this action and our thoughts and sympathies are with the people of East Timor during this troubled time.
We are confident of being able to resume our normal schedule of trips to East Timor in 2007 and hope that those travellers who have had to cancel their plans this year will travel with us to East Timor in 2007.
For other safety updates, please see our general safety updates page.

Intrepid tour was perfect for me...small group..lots of free choices (not the typical micromanaged kind.) Really fun.
