Day 1 Split

An exceptionally pretty city perched on the eastern shores of the shimmering Adriatic, Split makes for a warm welcome to Croatia. The country’s second-largest city, Split features the impressive ruins of Diocletian’s Palace and a wealth of informative museums. Given that there’s so much to see and do here, arriving a few days early to take in the sights is highly recommended.

Day 2 Zadar

Travel by bus to Zadar, a cosmopolitan city home to some exceptionally well preserved Roman ruins and a fabulous café and bar scene. Come sunset, walk down to the famous ‘sea organ’ to witness this prize-winning piece of public architecture in action.

Days 3-4 Zagreb

Stop in at Plitvice Lakes National Park, the oldest national park in south-east Europe. Enjoy an enchanting stroll along the boardwalks of this UNESCO World Heritage site, relishing the exquisite lake scenery and crisp pine-scented air. Get to know Zagreb, Croatia’s distinguished capital, on a guided orientation walk.

Days 5-6 Ljubljana

Travel by train across the Slovenian border and arrive in the capital, Ljubljana. With ancient castles posted on the surrounding hillsides and a great many bridges crossing the rivers that weave through its centre, the city is a joy to explore by foot.

Days 7-8 Venice

Arrive in legendarily, romantic Venice, the final destination of this trip. With museums, eateries, shops, canals, galleries and activities galore, there’s much vying for your attention here. If time permits, staying on a few extra days will be well rewarded.
