Settle into the seaside town of Plat, an ideal place from which to head off on a week’s worth of adventures. Test out the nearby beaches or perhaps even catch a bus into Dubrovnik to soak up its amazing atmosphere.

After learning the basics, hop into a kayak and paddle out to sea to enjoy a perspective of the city walls that few people get to witness. Those feeling confident may venture further out and try to reach neighbouring islands or hidden coves. Spend the afternoon on the other side, exploring Dubrovnik’s cobblestone streets and getting a great view of the Adriatic from the ramparts which surround this walled city.

Swap paddles for pedal power on today’s adventure instalment. Take the road less travelled and cycle through the striking countryside around the Konavle Valley. Pass pretty hamlets, streams and vineyards, with wonderful views as a well-earned reward.

Experience the thrill of white-water rafting, taking on rapids and overcoming waves along the way. Stop for a barbecue lunch in the magical forest wilderness and take advantage of calm sections to swim in the clear green water.

Travel by ferry to the island of Lopud, famous for having one of the region’s loveliest beaches. Stroll down to the traditional fishing village, go for a swim in the turquoise sea, relax on the seashore and maybe even join in the Croatian game of ‘picigin’, a volleyball-style sport played in the shallows with a tiny ball.

Decide as a family how to spend the next couple of days. Be lured by the gentle lapping of the Adriatic Sea, relax on spectacular sandy bays or perhaps wander into the nearby resort of Cavtat in search of souvenirs before the sun sets on this fabulous family adventure.
