Day 1 San Jose

Days 2-3 La Fortuna/Arenal Volcano

Travel across the lush Costa Rican countryside to La Fortuna; our base for exploring the scenic surrounds of Lake Arenal. Days 8-9 San Jose

Return to the relative modernity of San Jose. For those looking to make the most of the free time on hand, consider taking a stroll through the eclectic stalls of the Mercado Central or catching a local performance at the city's opulent Teatro Nacional.

Days 10-11 San Gerardo de Dota

Hit the road southbound to the lush mountain haven of San Gerardo de Dota. Head out on a quetzal-spotting tour with a local guide and perhaps cast a late afternoon line into the Savegre River – the cleanest river in a country renowned for them.

Days 12-13 Golfito

Cross the border into Panama and bliss out in the picturesque mountain village of Boquete. Days 16-18 Panama City

Board a flight to Panama City, one of Latin America's most contrasting and intriguing capitals. Gather your bearings on a guided orientation tour that takes in the famous Panama Canal, then splash out on a memorable final dinner with the group before this superb Central America adventure draws to a close.
