Add to Shortlist

Days 1-2 San Jose

Kick off the adventure in the buzz of cosmopolitan San Jose. Head to Poas Volcano National Park to see a gigantic crater, bubbling geysers and sulphur lakes. Afterwards, a visit to the National Institute of Biodiversity provides a fun introduction to the wildlife of Costa Rica. Walk through different kinds of forest in the National Park and see bright-coloured birds, slow-moving sloths and beautiful butterflies.

Days 3-4 Tortuguero National Park

Journey through dense rainforests and banana plantations before enjoying a boat tour through the lush wetlands of Tortuguero National Park - keeping an eye out for howler monkeys, toucans, crocodiles and green turtles along the way. Explore the steamy rainforest of Tortuguero on foot during the day and relax in a comfortable lodge at night.

Days 5-6 Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui

Rafting, canopy tours and even horse riding - there are loads of thrilling optional activities to choose from in Puerto Viejo de Sarapiqui. For a little indulgence, learn about the origins of chocolate and sample some sweet treats on a chocolate tour. Or perhaps just find a quiet spot and let the tranquil Sarapiqui vibe sink in.

Day 7 Arenal Volcano/La Fortuna

On a clear night, the sight of the glowing lava and incandescent rocks around Arenal Volcano is nothing short of spectacular. Indulge in the steamy bliss of La Fortuna hot springs and the refreshing waterfalls close to the base of the famous volcano.

Days 8-9 Guanacaste/Rincon de la Vieja

Travel through changing rural landscapes on the way to one of the last remaining tropical dry forests in Central America. Visit Rincón de la Vieja volcano, more than a million years old and still going strong! Opportunities for relaxation and adventure in the national park are plentiful so perhaps go rock climbing, rafting, or try a do-it-yourself mud exfoliation followed by an indulgent soak in the hot springs.

Days 10-11 Flamingo Beach

Emerge back onto the coast of Costa Rica for some fun at Flamingo Beach. The beachside bounty can include diving, swimming and snorkelling in the blue waters of the Pacific or parking up under the shade of a palm tree.

Day 12 San Jose

Pick up some last minute souvenirs from an artisan in Sarchi on the way back to San Jose. Perhaps mark the end of an unforgettable Costa Rican adventure with a fun group dinner.
