We love the lengths that some Intrepid travellers will go, to raise funds for a good cause! In mid October, Garry West-Bail of Melbourne, will be running and cycling across Vietnam, to raise funds for KOTO.
KOTO is well known to Intrepid travellers, for serving delicious food through their restaurants in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City – which are the fronts of a great organisation which helps support young people in leaving a life on the streets, through training in hospitality and life skills. Intrepid and The Intrepid Foundation have been proud supporters of KOTO since KOTO’s founding in 1999, by former Intrepid tour leader Jimmy Pham.
Garry’s mammoth adventure begins at KOTO Saigon Restaurant, and is due to finish at KOTO Hanoi Restaurant 10 days later, covering approximately 1000 kilometres. “I am passionate about the history, culture and people of Vietnam – which has kept me returning on several occasions to this amazing country. I have my health, I have support and I believe I can use these attributes for the betterment of the underprivileged in Vietnam”, says Garry. “I am hoping to raise a minimum of AU$36,000 for KOTO, which will support 15 youth through KOTO’s two year training program.”
UPDATE – Mission accomplished!!! Garry arrived at KOTO in Hanoi on Monday 21st October, after running and cycling 1000km from Ho Chi Minh City. A wonderful feat (and feet) of endurance and determination to benefit the former street kids training with KOTO. On arrival Garry said he felt “very proud, excited and relieved”. Well done Garry, from all at Intrepid and The Intrepid Foundation.
You can still help Garry fulfill his wishes for this challenging journey, by making a donation, big or small – to his fundraising appeal.
