While many travellers avoid the monsoon season, Intrepid’s Chetan Shanker Jha explains why this can be one of the most special times to witness all that is magical in India…
“The earth’s fragrance stifles the nose as the first drop of rain plummets on the leaf and slides its way down to the ground. When you look up, the army of clouds conquers the sun. Somewhere the clouds’ defense fails and there’s a rainbow – it’s just the beginning – the Monsoon has arrived.
Growling and flashing, the clouds assemble in different hues of grey. The trees beneath sway in approval. The grass shivers when the first drop hits its blades. As the dark clouds engulf the sky and the cold wind whips across the ocean, the wait for the heavy downpour begins… thick monsoon clouds guzzling the hilltops, break the monotony of clear blue skies.
Magic of Monsoon is a sight to behold… when nature imitates art. It is nothing less than a tribute to the trinity of earth, wind and the rain, all stirring up a healthy, harmonious ambience.
A crowd gathers at a local tea shop, and plates of samosas and cups of chai are shared. The water drips down the tea stall’s thatched roof, down into the puddle, creating concentric ripples, as the shop owner plays an old Hindi song.
Whatever it means to you, let the sound of the rain, the cool breeze, the greenery and the smell of wet earth soothe your stressed soul. Here is wishing you good times drenched with the droplets of happiness creating ripples of joys around you.”
