“There have been two things I have always wanted to do – take a surf lesson, in waters so warm that I didn’t need a wet suit, and walk at the base of live Volcano! Two extremes I agree, but those two activities were what drew me to Costa Rica.
My surf lesson took place in the waters of the Caribbean Sea (tough for some hey!), from the languid town of Puerto Viejo… said like the locals lopping walk. Three hours of the most fun a 28 year old girl, who has never touched a surf board in her life, can imagine. I certainly earned my freshly caught, grilled whole snapper that night.
The Arenal Volcano is the perfect volcano shape and being Costa Rica’s most active, there’s a good chance you will see mother nature’s spectacular show. Guided walks through the National Park at the base of the Arenal Volcano give you the best and safest chance to get as close as possible to the volcano. Monkeys, toucans and other wildlife dance above you through the speckled light of the rain-forest… the noise of the volcano in the background guarantees you an experience that you will not forget.
