iceland for everyone

iceland lava walkWhen you ask your friend what they did last weekend, “Went to Iceland” probably isn’t the answer you expected. Intrepid’s Katy Rockett made an impromptu trip to one of Intrepid’s newest destinations and is very glad she did…

“When my friend, and fellow Intrepid employee, mentioned the idea of going on a last-minute weekend getaway to Iceland, I thought she was seriously off her rocker… so of course I couldn’t resist jumping on board! Iceland had always been on my list of places to visit so it seemed an opportunity too good to pass up.

Fortunately Iceland is just a hop, skip and a jump away from Canada so after 5 short hours on Icelandair, we were there. I was barely off the plane when I fell in love with the country, and it truly felt like the land before time.

Iceland really has something for everyone. The Golden Circle tour, which takes you to geysers and the boundary where the Eurasian and North American tectonic plates meet, is a geology buff’s dream come true. For the slightly more adventurous, there is the opportunity to go glacier hiking and ice climbing on the Solheimajokull glacier. And for those seeking a more relaxing vacation, hop on one of Iceland’s unique and incredibly friendly breed of horse for some horseback riding through the volcanic country-side. But no matter how you spend your trip, you must finish it off with a visit to the Blue Lagoon en route to the airport for some downtime in the steamy waters of Iceland’s famed geothermal spa.

Albeit last minute, this was truly a destination I will never forget!”
