Fire and Iceland

Waterfalls in IcelandAnna Harvie discovered that there’s a lot more to Iceland than fire and ice, no matter what time of year you travel…

“Iceland is not only closer than you think, but far different than you ever imagined. Iceland is an independent democratic republic with a short but colorful history, with its own language and rich cultural heritage, especially in literature. With absolutely unique nature, this is a land of ice and fire with active volcanoes, spouting geysers, extensive lava fields and deserts, waterfalls, mountains and more. Around every corner there is something new and interesting.

Every part of the year has its own special attractions, character and charm. And do not let the name deceive you – Iceland can be very warm in summer when the sun shines virtually round the clock. Much of Iceland is still taking shape before your very eyes – raw, dramatic landscapes born from volcanic eruptions and carved out by glaciers. Other parts have hardly changed since the first Viking settlers saw them more than 1,100 years ago. You’ll experience wilderness and wildlife, energy and total calm, within easy reach wherever you stay, even on day trips.

Exploring Iceland with Intrepid, you’ll experience the continental drift in Thingvellir National Park, see a spouting geyser in the Geysir Geothermal Area, get close to boiling mud-pots, and stand in awe of giant waterfalls. In fact in Iceland, the day’s not complete until you’ve seen at least one waterfall! Top it off with the opportunity to walk on glaciers and sail between icebergs on an amphibious vehicle.”
