a top trip: walking england’s lake district

intrepidexpress | top spot to visit | Wednesday, 11 April 2012

john temple lakes districtThis is your chance to walk in the footsteps of Wordsworth, Beatrix Potter and modern day farmers. Walking England’s Lake District is a very exciting new trip for Intrepid and there is only one special September departure of this premium walking experience.

Trace Wordsworth’s footsteps from his preserved Dove Cottage home to his estate at Rydal Mount. Here, the resident caretaker gives you an exclusive private tour of the house and gardens that Wordsworth himself designed. It’s an experience that culminates with a poetry reading, followed by a glass of wine and homemade gingerbread.

You’ll get to ascend the hills to a panoramic 360-degree view of all the Lakeland and soak in the scenery whilst local guides regale you with stories from the region’s romantic past. Descend to the charming village of Hawkshead for lunch in a traditional 18th-century pub featuring home-cooked fare. Not only the residence of the poet William Wordsworth, Hawkshead was also the home of Beatrix Potter, and there is time to visit the gallery of her original paintings in a beautiful 17th-century building.

To add a touch of modern day lore, you’ll visit with John Temple, a local resident and farmer, originating from Keswick and living and working on Cragg House Farm. Here John raises over 600 ewes, a mix of Herdwick (the local Lake District sheep), Swaledale and Cheviot breeds. His charming farm sits in a hamlet below the Buttermere hills.

After a full day of walking and cultural exploration, indulge in a night of pure comfort at the Lindeth Howe Hotel, a classic English estate once owned by Beatrix Potter.

Dotted with medieval castles, gothic churches and whitewashed cottages, the Lake District is perfect place to enjoy indulging in an Intrepid Comfort walking adventure. Step onto a canvas of rolling green hills, craggy rust-hued mountains and sparkling lakes of the deepest blue and wander through a world that has inspired poets, novelists and artists for centuries!

If you think this trip is a bit too cushy for you, then tell your parents, or tell your friends who like their creature comforts, but let them know quickly because the 18 places on this special 23 September departure are sure to sell fast!
