special egypt souvenir

Egypt groupBrooke Malley was determined not to spend the next holiday season alone, but little did she know that she’d fall in love with Egypt, in more ways than one…

“London shuts down over Christmas. It’s hard to believe, but the greatest city in the world is a ghost town from Christmas Eve until after New Year. The streets are deserted and the bars and restaurants closed. I know this after spending one cold and bleak festive day wandering the usually bustling Notting Hill in search of Christmas lunch and a drink. I ended up with soggy take-away pizza.

With my family on the other side of the world, where Christmas is a barbecue, a swim in the pool and a game of backyard cricket, I vowed never to spend Christmas alone again. So the following year I booked myself on an Intrepid trip to Egypt. It was a country that I’d always wanted to go and it was amazing. Our guide was fantastic too. He went on to win the Wanderlust Tour Guide of the Year.

We watched the sun set over the Nile, took an early morning balloon ride over the Valley of the Kings, snuck out to a local belly dancing club, rode camels through the dessert, danced till dawn at a club on the beach, watched a full moon rise over the Red Sea and marvelled at the wonders. But the best thing about the trip was meeting my fiance. What a souvenir! Sure beats a dull t-shirt and a cheap snow dome of the pyramids!

We have so much in common, along with a love of travel. Since returning from the trip we’ve been to Amsterdam, Prague, Cuba, Paris (where Andy proposed), Munich, India and Nepal, with plenty more places on the list. I highly recommend Intrepid trips as a great way to travel with the insider knowledge of the guides and a fantastic way to meet some pretty interesting people!… ;-)
