One of Intrepid’s newest trips has you cruising into stunning Santorini by yacht. It’s postcard-perfect Greece with white and blue villages clinging to cliff faces and as Danielle Watts discovered, it is an ideal place to drop anchor and explore on foot…
“I had a picture in my mind of Santorini and it certainly didn’t disappoint. Located in the Cyclades group of the Greek Islands, in the shimmering blue waters of the Aegean Sea, Santorini is one of the most beautiful and popular islands to visit. On arrival you may be overwhelmed by the crowds at the port, vying for the attention and business of arriving tourists. But then it’s time to board the local bus, which slowly winds its way up the cliff face to the main town of Fira.
Many hours can be spent here as you enjoy exploring the cobblestone alleyways of old Fira town. There are quaint little shops selling everything from souvenirs and gorgeous handmade jewellery, to intricate lace tablecloths and designer beach wear. Tucked away are also some great restaurants serving up local specialties. Be sure to spend some time simply relaxing and taking in the amazing views from a cliff top bar, whilst enjoying a cocktail at sunset.
For the more energetic you may like to hike from Fira to a town called Oia. This is a beautiful walk but quite strenuous at times, as you make your way up and down the hills and through small villages, chatting to locals along the way. Once you arrive in Oia you can wander through to gorgeous whitewashed lanes before finding a great position on the point and settling in for one of the most spectacular sunsets you will see!”

Hi – We will be over in Europe at the end of June – beg. of July and are v. interested in this new yachting trip. However we are travelling as a family with 2 adults and our 7 year old son who is an experienced sailer. Please advise what sort of provioins (if any) you have for families on this trip. Thanks!.

Sounds like you’re planning a very exciting trip to Europe. In regards to kids joining our sailing trips, I’m sorry to say that our standard booking conditions apply and it’s a minimum age of 12 years. We hope that if these new trips grow in popularity then we may be able to include a sailing option in our Intrepid Family Adventures range, but unfortunately that won’t be in time for your next trip.
