Days 1-2 Cartagena

Wander around Cartagena's walled Old Town, peeking inside its candy-coloured buildings and spying the shady courtyards hidden within. Get a bird's-eye view from the top of Castillo de San Felipe de Barajas, or perhaps experience the therapeutic effects of a mud bath on a visit to a bubbling volcano. The nearby group of tiny coral islands and the stunning expanse of Playa Blanca (White Beach) reveal the hidden beauty of Colombia's Caribbean coast.

Days 3-4 Guachaca Region

Travel along the Caribbean coast to the scenic Guachaca region. Choose from a wide range of adventure activities on offer or just kick back and take in the gorgeous ocean views from the hostel veranda.

Day 5 Tayrona National Park

Sample a slice of seaside bliss far removed from the tourist crowds in stunning Tayrona National Park. Hike through the dramatic mountain scenery, verdant rainforest and jagged rocks for a swim at some of Colombia's most glorious beaches.

Days 6-7 Villa de Leyva

Settle in among the quaint whitewashed villas and expansive cobblestone plazas of Colombia's best preserved colonial city. Don't miss out on a visit to the traditional farmers' market for the chance to snack on some local delicacies.

Days 8-9 Bogota

Resting among emerald, mist-shrouded mountains, the cosmopolitan streets of Bogota are sure to delight. Take a walk through the colourful laneways of the city's historic heart, La Candelaria. Boasting a wealth of cosy cafes and colonial churches, this is a neighbourhood full of surprises. For breathtaking views of this sprawling capital, head to the top of Montserrat where scenic mountain-top cafes offer an escape from the chilly Andean air.
