About China , Vietnam

Hanoi to Hong Kong Summary

Add to Shortlist

Day 1 Hanoi

French architecture and tree-lined boulevards contrast with age-old Vietnamese traditions and Buddhist temples in Hanoi. Attractions at the top of the list include the Fine Arts Museum, the Temple of Literature and a wander through Hanoi's Old Quarter.

Days 2-3 Halong Bay

Sail around limestone karsts, explore stalactite-encrusted caves and share a fresh seafood lunch on a junk boat tour of Halong Bay. Spend a night on the Bay's tranquil waters before heading to jungle-clad Cat Ba, one of the few inhabited islands in Halong Bay. Discover fishing villages, trek through a national park or sip a cold Vietnamese beer on the beach.

Days 4-5 Hua Shan

Farewell Vietnam and travel into the isolated Chinese mountain village of Hua Shan. Stretch the legs on a walk through local villages.

Day 6 Liuzhou

Nestled on the banks of the Willow River in the Guangxi region of China, Liuzhou features peaceful parks and the impressive Baota Shan seven-storey pagoda.

Days 7-8 Chengyang

Admire the waterwheels that lazily flood the paddy fields surrounding Chengyang village. Explore this peaceful area on foot, and visit the remarkable Wind and Rain Bridge.

Days 9-10 Longji Terraces

Soaring high into the sky, the Longji rice terraces are an awesome sight, changing colour from lush green in spring to white and frosty in winter. Hike along the tiny stone paths that connect the remote villages of the Zhuang and Yao people.

Days 11-13 Yangshuo

Cycle through landscapes straight out of a classic Chinese painting near Yangshuo. Ancient villages, delicate bridges, local markets and dramatic countryside make a visit to Yangshuo a real tour highlight.

Days 14-15 Hong Kong

Travel north to energetic Hong Kong - an exhilarating, intoxicating fusion of East and West. In free time, perhaps take a relaxing cruise of the harbour, go shopping at Stanley Market or gaze at the Hong Kong skyline from above at Victoria Peak.
