Looking for adventure? Visit China and explore the country from Shanghai to Beijing on an adventure that offers more excitement than you can poke a chopstick at. Head from cosmopolitan Shanghai to Luoyang where Shaolin monks practise kung-fu. From here, continue through Luoyang and Xi'an, the starting point of the Silk Road, and then on to the stunning Sichuan countryside for glimpses of rural life. Days 1-3 Shanghai

Blending 21st-century architecture with old-world character, Shanghai is the vibrant pulse of new China.

Day 4 Shaolin

This legendary Shaolin Temple is the home of kung fu and still attracts thousands of young disciples each year.

Day 5 Luoyang

Luoyang was one of the four great ancient capitals of China and is famed for being the gateway to the Longmen Grottoes.

Days 6-8 Xi'an

As the start of the ancient trading route the Silk Road and an imperial centre for 2,000 years, Xi'an has a fascinating history and rich cultural sites to discover.

Day 9 Chengdu

Chengdu has plenty of traditional flavour with its famous tea houses, numerous markets and as the home of Sichuan cuisine, known the world over for its spiciness.

Days 10-11 Sichuan Countryside

Meaning 'four rivers', China's Sichuan region is abundant in spicy food, verdant tea terraces, ancient towns, narrow country roads and expansive mountain ranges.

Days 12-15 Beijing

Beijing has a long and colourful history and this rapidly modernising city is an amazing whirl of ancient sites, modern buildings, bicycles, people, shops and eateries.
