Begin this China adventure in dynamic Hong Kong. Vibrating with vitality, Hong Kong’s crowded markets, fascinating special-interest museums, creative fashion stores and diverse eateries threaten sensory overload of the best possible kind. Sample the city’s famous dim sum brunch and learn Chinese phrases during a language lesson. At night, head down to Victoria Harbour to catch the dazzling light and sound show.
Marvel at stunning jagged-green karst peaks that border the Li River while travelling to Yangshuo, the perfect place to glimpse local traditions. Perhaps get an up-close look at pastoral culture by taking a cruise along the river, which is dotted with weeping willows, rice paddies, crop fields and fishing villages. Encounter fresh local produce on a market tour, then whip up a feast during a cooking class.
Catch a flight to Xi'an: one of the country's oldest cities and site of the Terracotta Warriors. Become acquainted with the city on a short walking tour that takes in many of the city's landmark attractions, then travel out to visit the First Emperor's 8,000-strong terracotta army.
Arrive in Beijing, China's massive – and ever-expanding – capital city. Drive out for a walk along the Mutianyu section of the Great Wall, amble through Tiananmen Square and pay a visit to our friends at The Intrepid Foundation-supported project, Beijing Huiling. With plenty of free time in this larger-than-life city, why not head out on an optional excursion to the Summer Palace or catch a thrilling acrobatics performance.
Hop aboard a high-speed train to Suzhou. Admire the principles of feng shui on a leisurely stroll through the tranquil Humble Administrator's Garden before continuing on to Tongli. Navigate the town's quaint cobblestone streets on a guided walking tour, sample some of the region's delicacies and perhaps jump in a gondola for a ride through the canals of this picturesque town.
A fascinating fusion of space-age ambitions with old-world traditions, Shanghai makes for a fitting finishing destination to this classic Chinese adventure. Learn about the city's history and admire its extraordinary architecture on a walking tour led by your leader, then mark the conclusion of this memorable journey with a toast at one of the highest bars in the world – Cloud 9.
