Days 1-2 Hong Kong

A British colony until 1997, Hong Kong's cityscape is spectacular and its modern fast-paced life is only minutes from picturesque islands and beaches.

Days 3-4 Zhangjiajie

Travel to Zhangjiajie, one of the most stunning locations in China. Perhaps trek the surrounding area and take in the soaring mountains, remote villages and the rustic stone bridges, not to mention the plethora of valleys, caves, gorges and streams.

Days 5-6 Fenghuang

With green waters, ancient walls, stilted houses, and lantern-lit streets, Fenghuang (Phoenix Town) is a beautifully preserved ancient town guaranteed to enchant.

Days 7-10 Yangzi River

Named after the site of an ancient ferry crossing, the Yangzi River flows for 6,418 km and winds through a diverse range of China's landscapes.

Days 11-12 Chengdu

Chengdu has plenty of traditional flavour with its famous tea houses, numerous markets and as the home of Sichuan cuisine, known the world over for its spiciness.

Days 13-16 Shanghai

Blending 21st-century architecture with old-world character, Shanghai is the vibrant pulse of new China.

Days 17-19 Xi'an

As the start of the ancient trading route the Silk Road and an imperial centre for 2,000 years, Xi'an has a fascinating history and rich cultural sites to discover.

Days 20-21 Xiahe

Stop over in Xiahe, a leading monastery town for Tibetans that plays host to swarms of pilgrims in their eccentric, colourful and finest outfits. Visit Labrang Monastery, one of six major Tibetan monasteries of the Gelugpa sect and home to some 1,200 Buddhist monks, and witness the remarkable traditions and worshippers walking the kora.

Day 22 Tongren

Known as the 'Gateway to eastern Guizhou", Tongren is home to the Longwu Temple, which is a fascinating Buddhist site whose origins can be traced back to the 1300s. Be lucky to witness a public Anduo Tibetan play, which are performed by monks throughout the year and make nearby villages hotbeds of diverse entertainment and cultural activities.

Days 23-24 Xining

Journey onwards to Xining and stop off at Kanbula National Park en route for a spot of trekking. Be stunned by the incredible mountain scenes and become immersed in the forested hillside scenery.

Days 25-28 Beijing

Beijing has a long and colourful history and this rapidly modernising city is an amazing whirl of ancient sites, modern buildings, bicycles, people, shops and eateries.
