We loved the Active Family Thailand trip! It was a wonderful way to experience Thailand. While in Bangkok and Chiang Mai, we visited several beautiful Buddhist temples giving us a chance to learn more about Buddhism and its influence in Thai culture. The overnight sleeper trains taken between the two cities was a great adventure especially for the kids. The first highlight of the trip was hiking in Northern Thailand through the Hill Tribe villages. It was an intense 16 km hike which took about 5 hours but it was glorious hiking along the ridge of the hills and through several villages and rice fields where we rarely crossed the path of others. The deeper into the hills we went, it became more common to come across free roaming water buffaloes and cows. The hike ended at our first home stay where the kids cooled off by swimming in the river to their delight with the local kids. The kayak trip the next day was a gentle ride with easy rapids and beautiful views. The second highlight was the home stay in Amphawa which was set on an enchanting Coconut farm along the river. The home stay family was great with the kids and had several hands on activities we could all participate in from cooking to weaving to the making of coconut sugar which is one of the products they sell. We learned about rural living and culture. I was a little nervous about the home stays but both were the best part of the trip and had guest house where our whole group stayed together. This has been our best holiday yet!
