The guesthouses (Casas) we use are much nicer than your average Cuban dwelling but keep in mind that each and every room is unique. Regardless of where you stay, power cuts and breaks in hot water are sometimes unavoidable, as in any developing country.
Funds can be difficult to access in Cuba. Ideally bring multiple credit cards from several different banks just to be sure.
Luxuries such as air conditioning, and even toilet seats, are often scarce. Part of the experience here is learning to appreciate everyday Cuban resourcefulness.
Internet access can be hard to come by, and when it's available it's often unreliable and expensive. This is, on the other hand, a great opportunity to take a break from modern devices and have a true holiday.
Cuba is different, and that's a big part of its allure. Things don't always go according to plan, and many things don't work the same way as back home. Patience and good humour will go a long way in this beautiful destination.

Cuba is an emerging tourist destination with a rich culture and history. The current standards may not be what you are used to but that's what makes this journey all the better. Be patient, what Cubans believe to be amazing might not be so much for you (especially if you are well traveled), but their enthusiasm exceeds all. They are friendly, fun loving people and ready to have a great time with you. Their passion for their country is everywhere. Whilst Cuba can be expensive, it won't break the bank. Get your money sorted early though, use a nationally accepted money card, check and recheck bookings, especially transport to and from the airport. Be patient, have fum, take heaps of photos and chill with a Cuba Libre or Mojito and be prepare for the weather to change several times a day....

Booking a trip with Intrepid meant that we did not have to worry about anything. In a small country like Cuba it would have been easy for Intrepid to pad the trip out just to make money but they didn't do this and 7 days was the perfect amount of time.
