Travel through the natural beauty of New England and see the intrigue of Boston

Think you’ve seen all there is to see in the USA and Canada? Think again. Take a turn off the tourist trail and head north for a taste of Canada’s marvellous Maritimes, a pseudo-European landscape where emerald forests drop away to reveal sprawling coastlines, shipwrecked coasts and humble fishing towns. Along the way, explore the tree-lined roads of New England, cross the dramatic Appalachian mountains, get a taste of Maine’s fresh seafood and walk Boston’s revolutionary trail. For a unique North American experience, the fresh air and storybook scenery of New England and the Canadian Maritimes may be just the ticket.

Arrive in Boston, a forward-thinking, energetic city with a rich academic and cultural heritage. Leave the city behind and make tracks for Maine’s remote Baxter State Park, located at the Northern end of the Appalachian Mountains and a great place to jump in a canoe or enjoy a scenic flight over Mt Kadahdin – Maine’s highest peak.
Cross into Canada and be fascinated by the shifting tides of Fundy National Park, a peculiar mix of tidal flats and conifer-covered highlands. Embark on a relaxed hike and keep an eye out for moose, deer, racoons, coyotes and even the elusive black bear.
Hit the Trans-Canada highway and cross the Northumberland Strait to reach Prince Edward Island, Canada’s smallest province. Spend two days exploring an oil-painting landscape of rolling meadows, seaside towns and sand dunes – popping into quaint cafes, cycling through the countryside or visiting the original home of Lucy Maud Montgomery, the author of ‘Anne of Green Gables’.
Be impressed by Cape Brenton’s coastline, which has been weathered by centuries of giant swells and howling winds. Venture inland into this national park’s hardwood forests, look skyward to spot soaring eagles in the trees and perhaps enjoy a kayaking adventure.
Get a dose of maritime history, heritage architecture and cosmopolitan nightlife in one of Canada’s most liveable cities.
Leave Nova Scotia behind and catch a ferry across the Bay of Fundy to the city of St John.
Cross back into the USA and explore Acadia National Park, New England’s pride and joy. Situated on a series of rocky coastal islands, Acadia is best enjoyed by mountain-biking along the rugged coastline or exploring hidden caves in a sea kayak.
Return to Boston, a city that mixes sport, academia, colonial heritage and culture to make it one of America’s most treasured destinations.
