Southern Africa Unplugged Summary

Add to Shortlist

Day 1 Johannesburg/Soweto

It doesn't always have the best reputation, but Johannesburg has fascinating, vibrant places to explore like Soweto, Alexandra, Rosebank Flea Market and its wonderful museums.

Day 2 Milwane National Park

Milwane National Park is Swaziland's oldest protected area covering over 4,560 hectares. The park is situated in Swaziland’s “Valley of Heaven” - the Ezulwini Valley - and has an abundance of wildlife.

Day 3 Hlane National Park

A vast expanse of bushveld and its ancient hardwood trees make Hlane Royal National Park home to the largest wild herds in Swaziland.

Days 4-5 Kruger National Park

Created to control diminishing animal numbers due to hunting, Kruger National Park became official in 1926 and is now deservedly one of Africa's premier safari parks.

Day 6 Maputo

With its attractive tree-lined avenues, Maputo has a unique European feel and some great local restaurants.

Day 7 Inhambane

Inhambane is one of the oldest settlements on the East Coast of Mozambique. The sleepy historic town is known for its colonial architecture and is a stepping stone to the beach resorts around Tofo.

Days 8-9 Vilankulos

The lively coastal town of Vilankulos is our gateway to explore the clear waters and spectacular coral reefs of the Bazaruto Archipelago - home to some of the world's best diving sites.

Day 10 Lake Chicamba

Not far from the Zimbabwe-Mozambique border, Lake Chicamba is a popular fishing destination for locals and travellers alike.

Day 11 Mutare

Located near the border of Mozambique, Mutare is Zimbabwe's third largest city and sits just north of the beautiful Vumba Mountains.

Day 12 Masvingo

The oldest colonial settlement in Zimbabwe, Masvingo is the perfect base to explore the Great Zimbabwe Ruins - the national monument the country is named after.

Days 13-14 Bulawayo/Matobos National Park

Matobo National Park has remarkable granite hills and valleys, over 3,000 rock art sites and is the resting place of Cecil Rhodes, the founder of Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe).

Days 15-16 Victoria Falls

Victoria Falls is a town on the Zimbabwean side of the falls, with spectacular views and a reputation as the adventure capital of Zimbabwe.
