Why you'll love this trip
  • Gaze in wonder at the jungle-shrouded limestone temples of Tikal, one of the most impressive Mayan sites in the whole of Central America, as howler monkeys call from the canopy.
  • Relax and recharge on the white sands of Caye Caulker, a tiny Belizean island made for beach BBQs, snorkel trips and lazy afternoons spent swinging in a hammock.
  • Explore Livingston: a one-of-a-kind riverside town where the local culture is heavily influenced by the Afro-Caribbean Garifuna population.
  • Walk along cobblestone streets and shop for local handicrafts in the tiny inland island town of Flores.
  • Dig deeper into Mayan history – visiting lesser-known ruins and a mystical Mayan cave complex – around San Ignacio, a vibrant market town near the Belize-Guatemala border.

Is this trip right for you?
  • The tropical climate of Central America means conditions can be really hot and humid. Always carry plenty of water with you and stay hydrated, especially on walking tours.
  • As this trip covers destinations across two countries, you'll need to make a border crossing. While this is usually straightforward, please prepare to be patient.
  • While your leaders on this trip will bridge any language gaps you have along the way, you'll find meeting locals easier the more Spanish words you know. Attempting to communicate in Spanish is a great way of showing you care.
  • This trip involves some long days of travel, some of it by local transport. This may be a little more rustic than you are used to, but it's worth it to encounter local life in a real way.

Overpriced, unsafe, and unvetted; no sign of positive impact on local communities, group leader encouraged tax evasion. Trip was not as sold, accommodation was substandard, and the whole thing felt like a rip-off from start to finish. Group leader was rude and unapproachable in addition to promoting criminal activity. Utterly horrifying.

Guatemala to Belize. Unforgettable. The itinerary is full on but manageable. You get to see soooo much and experience so much I highly recommend had an amazing time. Only downside was the size of the double hotel rooms. Don’t let that deter you from experiencing this wonderful adventure. Truly out of this world!

Trip was awesome. Dont make the mistake of taking out quetzals in your home country. You’ll get better rates in guatemala.

I've taken many cruises in my life, and I loved them. But, I wanted more. I didn't really expect my Intrepid trip to Central America...through Central America...to be SO MUCH MORE than what I experienced on cruises. It was. It really was.

Wonderful trip! This was my third trip with Intrepid, but on a different continent this time. All the destinations and activities were amazing. Our leader Sergio was also great and went above and beyond to accommodate us. The hotels were also very good. Caye Caulker is beautiful, relaxing, and fun. I will never forget this trip and cannot wait to go back!
