During your stay at the lodge in the Amazon Jungle, accommodation is multi-share and quite basic (bed and linen are provided). You'll possibly be sharing your living quarters with mixed genders and the bathroom facilities are also shared.
Temperatures in the Amazon can fluctuate. It can get really hot, humid and sticky during the day and cold at night. Light cotton clothing is the best way to tackle the heat during the day, and base layers are ideal for keeping warm at night. Insects, especially mosquitoes, abound in the Amazon. Bring tropical strength insect repellent and wear long sleeves and pants to protect your skin.
There will be a moderate hike during the trip, which usually takes between 4-5 hours. Although it''s not too strenuous, the terrain can be unpredictable and good quality hiking boots are recommended. There will also be a couple of stops on your journey for water and food breaks.
The itinerary isn't packed full activities so there's quite a bit of free time in certain places. This is a great chance to take part in optional activities. Please note that any optional activities that you decide to do will be at your own expense.

For someone who isn't "outdoorsy" this trip was definitely doable and enjoyable! The experience in the jungle was really incredible, including tubing down the river. There are many opportunities to practice Spanish during the tour. There was also adequate unscheduled time to explore or relax as you wished. Once we arrived we learned there was no malaria in the parts of the jungle we visited, so malaria pills were not necessary.

Our first Intrepid trip ever was very well organised and had a great tour leader, Johanna. Our group travelled smoothly, enjoying experiences in the Shirapuna community and some great walks and optional activities, Devils Cauldron, big swing at Rio Verde. Highly recommend Intrepid.
