Day 1 Johannesburg

Begin the journey in Johannesburg, the commercial centre of South Africa and a sprawling city of green parks, towering skyscrapers, gracious mansions and lively townships. Those who arrive early may want to visit the historic township of Soweto or the Apartheid Museum to learn more about South Africa's history.

Day 2 Khama Rhino Sanctuary

Cross the border into Botswana to witness the success of the Khama Rhino Sanctuary. This inspirational conservation project was once a hunting area and is now a haven for endangered black and white rhinos. A game drive at dusk may reveal rhinos, wildebeest, zebras and giraffes.

Day 3 Maun

Make tracks to Maun, a small town famed for being the gateway to Botswana's famous Okavanga Delta.

Days 4-5 Okavango Delta

This famous waterway is formed by the Okavango River fanning out into an intricate maze of streams, creating 16,000 sq km of wetlands. With the help of a friendly local, traverse the delta in a mokoro, a traditional dugout canoe. Camp under the stars in the remote wilderness and rise early for a sunrise walk. Stay alert and try to catch a glimpse of elephants and cape buffalo.

Day 6 Maun

Experience life in a rural village then head back to Maun, perhaps opting for a flight over this amazing area.

Day 7 Nata

Journey on to Nata and set up camp on the edge of the Makgadikgadi Salt Pans. When the wet season arrives, the pans become a haven for native birds and animals, making for some exceptional wildlife spotting opportunities.

Day 8 Chobe National Park

Head for the plains and waterways of Chobe National Park. Famous for its elephant herds, Chobe also shelters lions, hippos and African fish eagles. Enjoy a relaxing water safari down the Chobe River in the golden light of the afternoon - this is one of the best ways to see these creatures at close quarters.

Days 9-10 Victoria Falls

Admire the incredible torrent of white water at Victoria Falls, where spray shoots hundreds of metres into the air. Explore the falls more closely or perhaps try some of the adventure activities on offer such as whitewater rafting, bungee jumping, abseiling and canyoning.

Day 11 Hwange National Park

Set out for a 4x4 game drive through the plains and wetlands of Zimbabwe's largest game reserve. Once the royal hunting grounds of Ndebele warrior-king Mzilikazi, the park is now home to approximately 400 bird and 100 mammal species.

Days 12-13 Matobos National Park/Bulawayo

Explore the country's second largest city before heading out on one of the many optional activities to perhaps track black and white rhinos in Matobos National Park.

Day 14 Palapye

Hit the road early this morning, bound for Palaype. With some fantastic eateries and plenty of interesting ruins, this character-packed township will inspire and intrigue. Don’t miss a village walk through stunning Old Palapye.

Day 15 Blouberg

Head towards Blouberg and camp in South Africa's Limpopo Province, an area that offers a unique and exciting cultural experience. Pursue paths along the base of the Blouberg Mountains and hear stories of the fascinating local community, who still lead a very traditional lifestyle. Later, enjoy authentic local meals such as Thopi and Malana at a village tavern.

Days 16-17 Kruger National Park

Travel through the expansive savanna and rolling hills of the spectacular Kruger National Park, keeping an eye out for the unusual white rhinos, giraffes, zebras, lions and elands. Choose to go on an optional night game drive to see nocturnal predators spring into action, or even set off on an optional early morning nature walk with a guide.

Day 18 Johannesburg

Take in stunning panoramas from the viewpoint over the incredible Blyde River Canyon. On arrival in Johannesburg, perhaps set out for some last-minute souvenir shopping or just rest those well-travelled feet at a local bar or cafe.
