About Australia

9 Day Territory Unleashed South Summary

Add to Shortlist

Day 1 Darwin/Kakadu

Kick off this Northern Territory adventure with a traditional welcome from the Limilngan–Wulna people. Learn about the culture and ancient history of this Indigenous group, then journey to the Mary River Wetlands where saltwater crocodiles rule the waters. Arrive in Ubirr for a spectacular sunset and the chance to see Aboriginal rock art that’s thousands of years old.

Day 2 Twin and Jim Jim Falls

Take a boat cruise with a national park ranger through the chasm of a gorge to witness Twin Falls up close – the dwarfing magnitude of this chasm invokes a sense of just how small we really are. After lunch, hike to the base of Jim Jim Falls, where a swim or laze on the beach is an excellent way to wile away the afternoon.

Day 3 Kakadu/Darwin

Plunge into the refreshing waters of Maguk Gorge before working up a sweat hiking to the top of Gunlom Falls, where a series of swimming holes await your arrival. In the afternoon, head back to lively Darwin.

Day 4 Darwin/Katherine Gorge

Set off from Darwin for Nitmiluk National Park. Take a refreshing splash in Edith Falls, explore Katherine Gorge and spend a night in the one pub town of Daly Waters.

Day 5 Karlu Karlu (Devils Marbles)/Alice Springs

Explore the sacred site of Karlu Karlu (Devil's Marbles), then cross the tropic of Capricorn and arrive in the town of Alice Springs.

Day 6 Alice Springs

Spend a free day exploring the city of Alice Springs. Why not learn about the region's particular ecology on a visit to the Alice Springs Desert Park, drop into the Alice Springs Reptile Centre or check out the Old Timer's Traeger Museum.

Day 7 Kata Tjuta/Uluru

Leave Alice Springs behind and set out into the rich red hues of the surrounding desert landscape. Perhaps choose to get a more elevated perspective from atop a camel on a visit to a working camel farm – this is how some of the first Afghan explorers navigated the country. Explore the peculiar gullies and mounds of Kata Tjuta on a Valley of the Winds walk, then behold a mesmerising Uluru sunset and snuggle up for a night under infinite outback stars.

Day 8 Watarrka National Park (Kings Canyon)

Get a sense of Uluru's size on a morning walk around the rock's base. Learn about the local Aboriginal culture and what this sacred site means to the people who live here while visiting the Cultural Centre.

Day 9 Alice Springs

Hike down into Kings Canyon and discover the park's spectacular natural features. Wander through the Amphitheatre, discover the Lost City, take a dip in the Garden of Eden's swimming holes and peer up at the soaring North and South walls. Return to the outback town of Alice Springs, where the adventure ends.
