About Australia

8 Day Alice Springs to Melbourne Explorer ex Yulara Summary

Add to Shortlist

Day 1 Yulara/Kata Tjuta/Uluru

This Uluru Safari adventure commences in Yulara, a tiny outback town only 18 kms from Uluru. Perhaps get a feel for the surrounding desert from atop a 'ship of the desert' on a visit to a working camel farm. Then make tracks across the sunburnt plains to Kata Tjuta (The Olgas) and enjoy a guided hike to uncover the legends of the nearby Valley of the Winds. A desert sunset over ancient Uluru (Ayers Rock) makes for a fitting end to a memorable day.

Day 2 Uluru/Kings Canyon

Wake to a vision of the sun rising up over magnificent Uluru. Learn a bit about the culture of the region's local indigenous population on a guided walk with a local member of the Mala people and drop into a Cultural Centre to peruse their traditional arts and crafts. Continue on to Kings Canyon for a night of camping.

Day 3 Kings Canyon/Erldunda

Explore the deep natural gullies and rock walls of Kings Canyon. Trek through the Amphitheatre, the Lost City, Garden of Eden and North and South Walls, keeping a keen eye for local wildlife.

Day 4 Coober Pedy

Cross the Territory border into South Australia. Arrive in Coober Pedy and set out on a tour of the museum and underground mine of this, the world's opal mining capital.

Days 5-6 Adelaide

Drive along the Stuart Highway, stopping off along the way for photo opportunities of the Central Australian salt flats. Pass the ‘rocket launching’ town of Woomera and break for lunch in Port Augusta before arrival in Adelaide.

Day 7 Adelaide/Grampians National Park

Spend a couple of days getting to know Adelaide, Australia's self-proclaimed 'City of Churches'. Cross into Victoria and enter the Grampians National Park. Learn about the significance of the park to the local indigenous population at the Brambuck Cultural Centre and visit some waterfalls before bedding down in Hall's Gap.

Day 8 Great Ocean Road/Melbourne

View London Bridge, Loch Ard Gorge and the iconic Twelve Apostles. Then just sit back and soak up the incredible views on offer along the Great Ocean Road. Spy koalas snoozing in their gum tree hideouts and take a break at legendary Bells Beach before the adventure winds up in Melbourne.
