4 Day Adelaide to Melbourne Explorer incl Kangaroo Island SummaryAdd to Shortlist
Drive along the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis and board the ferry to Kangaroo Island. Visit a sea lion colony in Seal Bay, fly down the dunes of Little Sahara on a sand board and explore Vivonne Bay Beach by bike, foot or kayak. When dusk falls, head out on a guided night walk in search of wallabies, possums and kangaroos before watching penguins arrive in Point Ellen.
Spy wild koalas among the tree tops of the Hanson Bay Wildlife Sanctuary, then beat the crowds to Flinders Chase National Park for the sake of scoring unspoilt views over the Remarkable Rocks. Peer through the open cave of Admirals Arch, spot fur seals basking on the rocks and chow down on a hearty barbecue at the Flinders Chase Visitors Centre. Following lunch, take a walk up Ironstone Hill and savour the views before returning to the mainland.
Wind through the Adelaide Hills, cross the Murray River and enter the Grampians National Park. Learn of what this country means to its local Indigenous people at the Brambuck Cultural Centre – you're appreciation of the land and its attractions will be more meaningful for it.
Reach the coast and soak up the stunning views over the Twelve Apostles, Loch Ard Gorge and London Bridge. Don't plan on nodding off for the rest of the drive though - characterised by roiling surf, lush green hinterlands and quaint coastal enclaves, the rest of the Great Ocean Road is just as spectacular. Stop off to see koalas at Kennett River and local surfers working their craft at a legendary surf beach before arriving in Melbourne, where this journey ends.
