Port Arthur

Day 1 Hobart/Bicheno

Welcome to Hobart, a quaint and cosy harbour town that also serves as Tasmania's capital. Depart early morning for the east coast and its astoundingly beautiful Bay of Fires. Take a stroll along the beach's chalky white sands or perhaps take a dip in the ocean. It won't be the warmest swim you've ever taken, but the aquamarine waters are really quite inviting. Soak up the dazzling scenery along the island's most spectacular coastal drive from St Helen’s to Bicheno and, season dependent, witness penguins waddle into shore come evening.

Day 2 Freycinet National Park/Hobart

Rise early to beat the crowds and score unspoilt views out over Wineglass Bay. Choose to explore the gorgeous Freycinet region via one of the area's walking trails or simply bliss out shoreside. Meet the famously tenacious, but now sadly endangered, Tasmanian devil at the Bonorong Wildlife Sanctuary and learn about the fate threatening this species. Return to Hobart for the night.

Day 3 Port Arthur/Hobart

Get a sense of Australia's colonial heritage on a visit to the well-preserved village of Richmond. Continue trawling back through history with a visit to Port Arthur, learning about the nation's convict history on a guided walk around this World Heritage-listed site.
