10 Day Coast and Karijini SummaryAdd to Shortlist
Arrive in the Perth and become acquainted with the delightfully laidpack pace of a city regularly voted one of the world's most liveable. Travel out to Nambung National Park for a wander through the bizarre limestone formations of the Pinnacles Desert, get sandboarding down the dunes of Jurien Bay and spend the night in Horrocks.
Venture into Kalbarri National Park. Check out Murchison's Gorge, take a photo framed inside Nature's Window and maybe give abseiling a shot. Stop by the aptly, if unimaginatively, named Shell Beach en route to Shark Bay.
Travel on to Monkey Mia and meet the beach's famously friendly dolphins, many of which have been arriving for an easy breakfast for decades. Stop by the stromatolites of Hamelin Pool on the way to Coral Bay and see some of the earth's first living creatures.
Choose between snorkelling and a glass bottom boat tour to experience the underwater majesty of Ningaloo Reef. One of the world's largest fringing reefs, this immense sprawl of brightly coloured coral is home to manta rays, turtles and over 500 species of fish – so keep those eyes peeled! Or for a vantage point altogether different, splash out on a scenic flight over the top.
A picturesque coastal town boasting superb beaches, excellent fishing opportunities and the Cape Range National Park just 40 kms away, Exmouth is a perfectly pleasant place to spend a couple of free days. There's also exceptional snorkelling to be had in Turquoise Bay, and from mid March to late July an annual migration of whale sharks occurs.
Point the compass inland and take the road into the hauntingly beautiful Pilbara region. Set up camp in a scenic little spot overlooking the dramatic Hamersley Range.
Venture into the Karijini National Park and spend two days exploring its tremendous landscapes and incredible natural attractions. Walk through deep gorges to stunning cascades, take a dip in plunge pools almost too pretty to be true and clamber through narrow ravines of surreal hues and contours.
Hit the Great Northern Highway and start the southbound journey back to Perth. Take in the vast and barren landscape of Australia's largest state, pass thriving mining towns and drive through huge livestock stations before bedding down in one of these for the night.
Make brief visits to the gold mining town of Mt Magnet and former missionary town of New Norcia before arriving back in Perth, where this memorable Coast and Karijini small group adventure winds up.
