Why travel with Intrepid?
We all travel for different reasons.
People. Culture. Wildlife. Food. Landscapes. Cityscapes.
Whatever motivates you, we’re here to help you get stuck in.
All of our trips are designed to create unforgettable 'wow' moments. From our destination managers crafting itineraries that introduce you to truly unique people and places, to our leaders who are on the lookout for opportunities to facilitate local interaction along the way. We offer the local knowledge and experience to get you behind the scenes of a destination – nothing pre-packaged or artificial, just unique, authentic insights into local lives.
Our groups are small enough to feel like you’re exploring a destination independently, but big enough to create a good social vibe. Group size will vary depending on where we’re travelling; some of our overland trucks carry more travellers, and some of our sailing boats only fit a smaller group. But our average group size is 10. And we’ve found that’s a great number to let you connect with the people you meet – whether they’re locals or the other people in your group.
Our commitment to sustainability forms the fabric of every part of Intrepid. Our leaders, our travellers, our staff – everyone’s contribution is of equal significance. And we take sustainability pretty seriously here.
Whether it’s our energy-saving and recycling initiatives throughout our global offices, our responsible travel policies (that resulted in us being awarded the Tourism for Tomorrow Award in 2011) or The Intrepid Foundation (our not-for-profit fund that distributes money raised by our travellers and staff to projects in the communities we visit) – we live and breathe sustainability.
When it comes to your hometown, we bet you know the stories behind the hidden sights, all the best bars and the tastiest spot to grab a bite to eat. But when you travel, you’re suddenly the new person in town. That’s why it makes sense for a local to help show you around.
Take Bruno for instance (below). As one of our friendly leaders in Sri Lanka, Bruno won the prestigious Gold Wanderlust World Guide Award in 2011. Many passengers have sent us feedback to comment on Bruno’s commitment to his groups - he's often found waiting overnight at Colombo Station to make sure his group are able to get first-class tickets in the observation car. But going above-and-beyond is a quality common to all of our leaders. Take a look at the ways a local leader like Bruno can help you get the most out of your adventure:
We like to travel the local way – whether that means paddling a raft or pedalling a bicycle. You’re guaranteed genuine local transport wherever possible, which puts you right in the centre of the action and lets you move around at a grassroots level.
Where you rest your head at the end of a big day can make or break a trip. It could be a unique stay at a gaucho estancia in Uruguay, a night at a remote Siberian village on the shores of Lake Baikal or a family-run homestay in Marangu at the base of Kilimanjaro. Either way, you’ll experience unforgettable accommodation, welcoming communities and legendary locals.
Being a global company means that our trips carry people from all walks of life and from all around the world. Instead of being defined by age or nationality, Intrepid travellers are united by attitude: an open mind, a positive vibe and a yearning to connect with the world around them. So when you choose to travel on an Intrepid adventure, you can be confident that you'll get to explore the world with a group of like-minded travellers.
