Itinerary

Welcome to a city like no other. Be immersed in Cairo's chaos, colour and culture with a trip to Khan al-Khalili, Egypt's most famous bazaar. For a change of pace, climb aboard a camel and visit the impressive Sphinx and Pyramids of Giza for those iconic vistas. Take time to visit the fascinating Egyptian Museum, home to more than 120,000 antiquities and relics including the famous burial treasures recovered from King Tutankhamun's tomb. In the evening, take an overnight sleeper train bound south.
Join a local Nubian family for dinner to experience a slice of Nile culture firsthand. There is also time for an optional day trip to the fascinating temples of Abu Simbel. Later, set sail down the Nile on a magical overnight felucca journey, sleeping on deck under the starry sky.
Known as Thebes to the ancient Egyptians, Luxor conceals amazing treasures. Pay a visit to an Intrepid-supported animal care project and wander the amazing Temples of Karnak. Enjoy a donkey ride before heading to the Valley of the Kings to visit three of the best-preserved pharaonic tombs. Afterwards, join a local family for a traditional home-cooked lunch and enjoy free time before boarding an overnight sleeper train back to Cairo.
Return to Egypt's pulsating heart. Uncover peaceful Coptic Cairo before moving on to the vibrant spiritual heart of the Islamic Cairo district.
Slow things down in the relaxing beachside hangout of Dahab, on the edge of the Sinai desert. Or perhaps speed things up by making the most of its spectacular diving and trekking opportunities.
Head to the Red Sea coast. Golden sands, balmy beaches and simple beach huts provide the perfect backdrop for some quality relaxation time.
Venture across the Gulf of Aqaba by ferry to the kingdom of Jordan. Spend the night in the seaside city of Aqaba, renowned for its abundant marine life and excellent diving.
Experience a memorable night with friendly Bedouin hosts. Tour through the breathtaking landscape of Wadi Rum desert in a jeep, admiring the ancient rock formations and towering sand dunes. Drift off to sleep counting stars in the night sky.
Head north to Petra, a UNESCO World Heritage site also known as the Rose City. Petra is a true highlight of the trip. Ancient pink-hued buildings carved into the rock of the surrounding mountains make visiting this ancient city a unique experience.
Wander the crusader castle at Karak, float in the Dead Sea and travel to Madaba, a city where Byzantine and Umayyad mosaics evoke memories of lost empires.
Travel to Istanbul and discover a magical city of minarets, mosques and markets that will inspire and delight. Get to know Sultanahmet or bargain with cheeky vendors in the Grand Bazaar. Be dazzled by the exquisite architecture of the Blue Mosque, sniff out the spice markets or grab a strong Turkish coffee and watch the world go by.
Reflect on a tragic moment in history amid the moving memorials and windswept scenery along this peninsula. Experience how the stunning natural beauty of Gallipoli makes it hard to believe that one of the most devastating and fiercely fought battles of WWI was fought here.
Take an optional trip to Troy where a little imagination can make the history of the ruins come to life. Later, in Ayvalik, relax on an Aegean cruise across the azure waters.
See how Ephesus, once the heart of the great Eastern Roman Empire, still retains some of its past glory. Then, maybe delve deeper into the area’s fascinating history at the Ephesus Museum or visit the Basilica of St John in Selcuk.
Admire the pools at Pamukkale, which have been famed for their medicinal qualities since Roman times. Enjoy a warming dip at Hierapolis and, during winter, stop by Aphrodisias, a city dedicated to the Greek goddess of love and beauty.
Discover a bewitching mix of history, charm and modern sophistication in Antalya. Visit the ruined city of Termessos, one of the best preserved archaeological sites in the region. During free time, wander through Kaleici to see relics of Roman, Byzantine, Seljuk and Ottoman occupation, visit ancient Hadrian's Gate and Hıdırlık Tower or be lured by the sapphire waters of the Mediterranean.
