Best of Cambodia SummaryAdd to Shortlist
Phnom Penh celebrates life with optimism and colour, and there are a wealth of riverside eateries, bustling markets and historic sites - both tragic and inspiring - to discover.
With the Sangker River running alongside, Battambang has wonderfully preserved French Colonial architecture, ornate Khmer temples and a laidback feel, despite being Cambodia's second-largest city.
A vibrant nightlife, mouth-watering food, a time-worn French feel and certain famous temples on its doorstep - Siem Reap is a little town with a big, pulsating heart. Immense, awe-inspiring, extraordinary - the Angkor Wat temples are all this and much more. Built in the 12th century, this former Khmer city is nothing short of spectacular.
Get a taste of real Cambodian life on a homestay with a local family in one of the traditional villages near the impressive Sambor Prei Kuk temple complex.
With gorgeous scenery, lush rice paddies and nearby Phnom Chhnork Caves, Kampot is a beautiful little town famous for growing pepper and durian.
Sihanoukville - or Kompong Som to locals - is a small port town with long stretches of beach and beautiful, sleepy islands just off the coast.
Sitting on the confluence of the Mekong and Tonle Sap rivers, Phnom Penh is buzzing with modern life, while still retaining some of its French Colonial heritage.

Best of Cambodia, May 2014
Overall, I had an amazing experience! This was the first time I had travelled with Intrepid and I was very happy to have made that choice! I have already recommended Intrepid, and especially the guide that I had, Keasar, to my friends and family. I absolutely cannot speak highly enough of Kaesar as our guide!!! He was fantastic and went above and beyond to ensure that everyone on the trip had the most amazing time!!! Kaesar was so passionate about sharing his culture with us and was willing to share his personal stories in relation to the history and culture of Cambodia. I could give endless examples of how Kasear went above and beyond for our tour group but will limit myself to just 3: 1. One of the group left a souvenier painting behind at Siam Reap: Kaesar organised for the painting to be transported to Phnom Penh so it was ready to be picked up when we arrived back for the end of the tour. 2. During our river cruise at Siam Reap, the boat got bogged in the mud and without hesitation, Kaesar jumped into the dirty, muddy river to help the boat captain get the boat moving so that we could have our river cruise! 3. Some of the group wanted to spend an extra night in Sihanoukville at the end of the tour so Kaesar organised the accommodation, extra boat tour and transport back to Phnom Penh so that they could spend the extra time that they wanted to there. There are so many more things I could add about what a fantastic guide Kasear was but I hope that this has given you an idea. He was very friendly, professional and organised, easy to approach and enjoyed socialising with the group to hear about our lives and cultures. I have already recommended him to my family and friends and would love to go one another of his tours one day!! I am not sure if Intrepid has awards for their tour guides but if so I wouldn't hesitate to nominate Kaesar!

We could not have had a better leader! Keasar was excellent in every way during our tour. He was very approachable and nothing that we asked of him was ever a problem. He was the best!
