El Chalten peaks

Arrive in the small, bustling town of El Calafate, a former sheep station and trading outpost on the southern shore of Lago Argentino. Today the town caters to a busy tourist trade, with most people coming to visit the nearby Perito Moreno Glacier. El Calafate takes its name from a native berry, which when eaten supposedly assures a return trip to Patagonia. Relax during the day before a welcome meeting in the evening.

Journey out on a day tour of the Perito Moreno Glacier. Hop on a catamaran for spectacular views of the glacier from Lago Argentino or simply stroll the platforms and walkways for a unique perspective of both sides. Bring some tasty snacks and a hot beverage, pick a comfy spot and marvel as chunks of ice break off and tumble into the waters more 60 m below. Return to El Calafate to catch a local bus out to El Chalten.

Lace up those hiking boots and head out on Patagonia's most celebrated trails – Laguna de los Tres and Laguna Las Torres. Trek through barren, rocky valleys and verdant plains, with backdrops of aquamarine glacial lakes and towering ice-covered mountain peaks.

Today is free for you to spend however you please. Plot out a walk or just kick back with a glass or two of Argentinian wine in one of the cosy cafes. Return to El Calafate for a final group dinner, where this Patagonian adventure finishes up.
