Set sail on an Arctic adventure from Longyearbyen, Svalbard's largest settlement. Drift out to sea while looking back across the mountainous terrain that serves as a backdrop for this remote town. Join host Tim Jarvis for a welcome dinner, and learn more about his experiences in the polar regions and the environmental challenges that are specific to the Arctic.
Spend eight memorable days exploring Spitsbergen, an Arctic eden filled with incredible wildlife, polar deserts and immense glaciers. Far from being a wasteland, the tundra-covered landscapes can be surprisingly colourful in summer, with wildflowers bursting forth for a taste of sunshine. Discover the western coast of the island en route to the stunning fjords and outlying islands to the north, and gain a greater appreciation of the history and geology of this unique land. Spot polar bears hunting on sheets of white, look upward toward the nesting birdlife among the towering cliffs of Alkefjellet and scour the coast for imposing walruses lazing on rocky shores. Get closer to the action by jumping in a sea kayak to discover isolated coves, and strap on some snowshoes to venture onto the mainland and visit a historic whaling memorial and abandoned huts. It can be difficult to guarantee specific daily activities due to the weather conditions, but rest assured there will be guaranteed memorable experiences at every stage of the journey. You’ll also have the benefit of daily presentations from Tim Jarvis, where he will share his knowledge of leadership and challenges, as well as his passion for sustainability and the environment.

The Sea Spirit
Intrepid's Arctic adventures sail aboard the Sea Spirit - a comfortable, all-suite ship. Carrying a maximum of 112 passengers, and refurbished in 2010, this distinguished Polar sailing vessel allows you to explore the crisp, wild environment, all from the comfort of a warm marine base - with an open bar service, outdoor viewing areas and a hot tub, plus all the amenieties you would expect from a quality hotel service.
Every style of room has its own king-size bed (or twin if you prefer), plus en-suite bathroom facilities and exterior views, while the Deluxe, Premium, and Owner's Suites each have private balconies - the perfect private viewing area to relax and absorb the epic surronds.
The vessel is also equipped with Zodiacs - rubber inflatable boats designed to transfer people to shore, as well as get up close to the wildlife. Dependent on weather conditions, there is also the option of sea-kayaking, camping, climbing and cross-country skiing.
