Day 1 Embarkation Longyearbyen

Wander the frosty streets of the world’s northernmost city before setting sail on your Arctic adventure. Get to know life as a ship-dweller and look out at snowy mountain peaks as they recede into the horizon.

Days 2-8 Exploring Spitsbergen

Tucked far away in the remote wilds of the Arctic, Spitsbergen is bursting with incredible wildlife, polar deserts and immense glaciers. Far from being a wasteland, the tundra-covered landscapes can be surprisingly colourful in summer, with wildflowers bursting forth for a taste of sunshine. Begin by exploring the western coast of the island en route to the stunning fjords and outlying islands to the north. While the itinerary can be as varied as the unpredictable polar weather, the ship will endeavour to get as close as possible to some of the island’s must-see locations, including 14th July Glacier, Smeerenburg, Phippsoya, Alkhornet and the Hinlopen Strait. There are also opportunities to spot polar bears roaming around on sheets of white, as well as the various nesting birdlife among the towering cliffs of Alkefjellet. Along the way, be sure to scour the coast for imposing walruses lazing on rocky shores. From Arctic foxes, reindeer and, of course, whales, the opportunities for wildlife spotting in this frozen land are endless. Get closer to the action by jumping in a sea kayak to discover isolated coves, and strap on some snowshoes to venture onto the mainland. Visit a historic whaling memorial to learn about those who risked their lives in the 17th and 18th centuries to work in extreme Arctic conditions.

Day 9 Disembarkation Longyearbyen

Return to Longyearbyen, where this Arctic adventure ends.
