Sail the Arctic waters to Antarctica for an adventure of a lifetime
Embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure tour to Antarctica, one of the most remote places on the planet. From Ushuaia in Argentina, retrace the path of early explorers as you sail across the Drake Passage on the Ocean Diamond. Explore the Antarctic coastline on inflatable motorised boats and marvel at the astounding variety of animals in Antarctica - from penguins in their rookeries and Weddell seals sunbathing on ice floes to whales feeding in the nutrient-rich waters. Be prepared, the pink skies at night and turquoise waters are truly breathtaking.

Introduction to Antarctica Summary
Add to ShortlistDay 1 Ushuaia
Travel to Ushuaia, an incredibly picturesque city that is a joy to explore and a highlight of the many Argentina attractions. Spend time watching birds soaring over the Beagle Channel, wandering the colourful streets or even exploring the area on a hike or by kayak.
Day 2 Embarkation
Board the MV Polar Star and get ready for an Antarctic adventure! Set out along the Beagle Channel, a stunning area alive with birdlife and wonderful vistas, and settle into the comforts of the ship.
Days 3-4 Drake Passage
Navigate the famous waters of the Drake Passage, which connects the Atlantic and Pacific oceans and extends into the Southern. Experience some of the rare and unusual wildlife in Antarctica as the mixing of polar and temperate waters pushes nutrient-rich waters to the surface, attracting seabirds, whales and other species. While at sea, there is plenty of time to become acquainted with the Polar Star and enjoy learning about this extraordinary region from onboard experts.
Days 5-7 South Shetland Islands & the Antarctic Peninsula
Experience the awe that is inspired by Antarctica, and what is was that kept explorers coming back despite the hardships they faced. While it is the coldest, windiest, driest, iciest and highest of all the major landmasses in the world, it is home to one of the world's greatest concentrations of wildlife and in Antarctica lies one of the last true wilderness areas left on earth. No two expeditions are the same, and time may be spent hiking across the ice and wildlife spotting on the South Shetland Islands, enjoying Zodiac cruises to historic and wildlife sites, taking a ‘polar plunge’ into icy Neko Harbour or a host of other unique Antarctica adventures.
Days 8-9 Drake Passage
Return north along the Drake Passage, watching out for penguins, Weddell seals, whales and the myriad of birdlife who call the South Pole home.
Day 10 Ushuaia
This seafaring adventure ends on disembarkation in Ushuaia. Argentina has many more wonderful destinations so if there is time to spare, perhaps journey into the wilds of Patagonia or spend time back among the vibrant city vibes of Buenos Aires.
