training and development

Intrepid staff have many opportunities for personal growth and learning in fact, we think it is part of working here! Since Intrepid is growing rapidly, we also frequently create new roles and positions, so there is scope for multi-talented and motivated people to re-define and extend their positions or try their hand at something different. On top of that, we have a variety of training schemes and programs:

management trainee program

Intrepid has its own Management Trainee Program to provide a means for fast track promotions to management positions for motivated employees. The two and a half year program includes project work and rotations in various departments and to make sure that our passion for travel is not neglected, participants will also undertake a 9 months stint as a group leader in an Intrepid destination. The trainee will get broad experience in the day-to-day operations of all aspects of the company, but will also have opportunities to work independently on strategic issues.

Intrepid management program

For employees who already manage a team or function but are keen to gain greater skills and knowledge in a variety of management areas, we have started the Intrepid Management Program. It consists of monthly program sessions on particular management concerns, and ongoing individual discussions between the participants and the program convenor.

performance pay

In line with Intrepid’s Core Values our performance pay system is based both on individual performance and development as well as on contributions to achieving the department’s goals – Intrepid is a real team effort after all and our staff take great pride in their work.

Every office staff member has a performance review every 6 months with their manager to ensure that regular feedback and encouragement are given and future development paths and training opportunities are identified. We definitely do not see these reviews as a kind of control or even disciplinary procedure but as an opportunity for two-way communication regarding the direction the employee is taking or would like to take.

training and study support

Intrepid recognises the importance of supporting staff continued learning and development. All fulltime staff members are entitled to study leave and may also receive financial support for external training programs, short courses or ongoing tertiary study.

internal training

Intrepid runs a variety of internal training sessions. These may be presentations about product knowledge for reservations staff or presentations for the entire office on operational health and safety, customer service, conflict management etc. At other times, there might be external trainers coming in for particular training sessions. We are generally open to ideas and requests for training and information!
