recruitment and training
You are able to submit an Application for a Group Leader position at any time, however you may not be interviewed immediately. Interviews are conducted throughout the year. For seasonal regions interviews are held as follows; India May- July, China and Europe from October to February. The timing of interviews and the number of new leaders sought are largely dependent upon our trip schedules, which seem to be ever changing!
After submitting your Application on-line, you will be advised by e-mail if you've been selected to be interviewed, and subsequently, of the date of interview in the location closest to you. Sometimes this may take a few months! We are very strict in our selection so some people aren't successful. Due to the volume of applications received only successful applicants will be notified once their application has been assessed.
After recruitment, there's training to look forward to ...
All new leaders must complete and pass the Intrepid New Leader Training course before running their first trip. The course consists of a week of Initial group training, followed by Trip Training with an experienced leader. Initial group training is run in the region where you will be working. The week covers all you need to know to start leading trips - Customer Service, Group Dynamics, Safety, Responsible Travel, Accounts and more. You must pass all modules to be able to continue on to your Trip Training. During Trip Training you accompany an experienced leader on one or more Intrepid trips (with real passengers) that you will then lead yourself.
To eliminate the risk of people having a free holiday at Intrepid's expense (yes, it has happened), new leaders are required to pay their own way to the training destination. Additionally, successful trainees pay their own airfare to their starting destination (if this is different to your training location). A proportion of your airfare (variable by destination) is reimbursed on completion of your contract. Should you fail to pass any stage of training, no contribution to transport costs will be made.
