I have a passion to travel, see new places and experience what they have to offer. I left my home in the UK over 5 years ago and am yet to return after visiting USA, South America, Pacific Islands, Australia, New Zealand and 7 months in Asia.

Experiencing the wonders of East Africa and immersing myself in the culture while assisting the local community. I spent 5 weeks volunteering in Kenyan teaching projects located deep in the Rift Valley, near both Lake Nakuru and Lake Naivasha - spectacular panoramas and breathtaking scenery. 

Best travel tips

Always take a packet of wet wipes with you, they are so handy. Also take a sarong - it can double as a beach towel, bag, sling and head scarf.

Which country is next on your list to experience and why

Peru - to trek the mighty Inca Trail to Machu Picchu, learn about the Inca culture and float on the world's highest navigable lake.

I'd always dreamt of visiting far away places that were full of different cultures, people, scenery and animals. My dream became reality in 2000, when I left my home in England for Australia, and have not stopped exploring the world since.

Favourite travel destination and why

Backpacking in Sumatra in 2001, my first Asian experience. It was full of friendly, smiley people and beautiful-natured children. I fell in love with the simplicity of life and diversity, from diving to volcanoes, orangutans to beaches, lakes to mountains to mosques.

Russia - ballets, vodka, amazing buildings, history, spies, secret tunnels and furry hats.

Best travel memory

Reaching Everest Base Camp and having a lovely cup of tea after an amazing and diverse hike through forests, frozen rivers, snow, past yaks and monasteries. 

Best travel tips

Take tiger balm - not only is it great for colds, pains and mosquito bites, it is also handy to put under your nose before entering some public toilets!

Favourite food experience

Chiang Mai Cooking School, where I learnt how to prepare and cook Thai meals, using ingredients bought from the local market... best Thai meal I've ever eaten!

Research and planning are the keys to make your dreams a reality.

Burma, because it is at an amazing point in its long and complex history.

Tell us about you

A passion for travel has led me to travel extensively and eventually to become a leader for Intrepid in South East Asia and then China and Tibet. I now enjoy being able to assist others in planning their own adventures.

Favourite travel destination and why

There are so many however China is a place that I believe everyone should visit. It is a country that has absolutely everything and is changing fast. Once you travel outside the main centres you will experience a very different China.

Travelling in Southern India, which is very different to the north. It has great beaches and is very laid back.

There have been so many - each day brings a new memory which is one of the joys of travelling. Even when things do not go to plan there is the potential for some fantastic stories and memories.

Remember to pack your sense of humour and a bucket load of patience.

Favorite Food Experience

Sitting in a Tibetan tent nomads drinking Yak butter tea made with milk straight from the yak. An acquired taste however it is the experience that makes it.

Which country is next on your list to experience and why

The urge to return to Africa and in particular Southern Africa. Once you have visited there is always the yearning to return.

I have always had a passion for travel. I love the history, art and food of different cultures.
When I was 21 I left NZ for the first time to live in Japan, 9 years later I finally moved home after exploring and living in Asia, Europe and Australia.
 

Favourite travel destination 

Japan - it has everything in one country, from the massive city and lights of Tokyo to beaches in Okinawa, history in Hiroshima, Mountains in Nagano, Temples in Kyoto and absolutely amazing food.
 

Most recent adventure

Sarawak in Borneo, hiking through jungles and meeting the many different types of monkeys.
 

Best travel memory

Visiting Chunuk Bair, the New Zealand Momument at Gallipoli. It was extremely moving, and definitely a highlight of any trip to Turkey.

Learn some key phrases in the local language, it makes life a lot easier!
 

Favourite Food Experience

Eating tanjine at Djemaa el Fna in Marrakech, surrounded by snake charmers, jugglers and monkeys. It was not just about the delicious food but the real life experience.

Egypt and Jordan on our Pyramids to Petra tour. I cannot wait to learn about the ancient civilizations and cities, and laze on a felluca overnight on the Nile.
