New trips in China, India, Burma and along the Silk Road have been added to Intrepid Travel’s 2013 programme in Asia.
Intrepid’s new Best of China itinerary (21 days) showcases the startling contrasts of the oldest continuous civilisation on Earth, from the modern metropolises of Hong Kong and Shanghai to the verdant landscapes of rural Yangshuo, and the endangered giant pandas in Chengdu to the ancient wonders of the Terracotta Warriors in Xi’an and the Great Wall. The Hong Kong to Shanghai section of the route is available as a 12-day Discover China tour.
Capturing the chaos and inspiration of India at its best while ticking off many of its iconic sights, the two-week Delhi to Goa tour journeys from the commotion of Delhi’s streets to the impressive forts, ancient palaces and colour-drenched cities of Rajasthan, through the heart of Bollywood in vivacious Mumbai, to the chilled-out beaches of Goa.
Following strong demand for its Best of Burma tour in 2012, Intrepid has added a China, Burma and Thailand tour which enables travellers to experience the rustic charm of Burma alongside the temples and quiet villages of the Yunnan province in neighbouring China, and the contrasting buzz of Bangkok – once a backpacker haven, now transformed into a south-east Asian heavyweight.
The new Silk Road and Beyond tour follows the greatest and most ancient of all trade routes Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent to the Russian capital of Moscow. Travellers visit important settlements, crawl into Stalin’s bunker in Samara, explore the Kremlin and cruise along the scenic Volga River, while following in the footsteps of merchants that travelled the same road for hundreds of years carting silks, spices, fragrant teas and other exotic goods.
For those with longer to explore the ancient trade route, Intrepid’s new Silk Road – Beijing to Moscow itinerary also journeys across the vast steppe of western China, the desert landscapes of Turkistan, and the breathtaking mountains and emerald panoramas of Kyrgyzstan.
