PATA Award

Intrepid Wins Gold at the PATA Awards

Following our win at the 2006 Responsible Tourism Awards, Intrepid is thrilled to receive the PATA Gold Award for Corporate Environmental Programmes. Out of a record total of 339 entries from 132 travel and tourism organisations, Intrepid's Responsible Travel Programme was awarded the Gold Award for Corporate Environmental Programmes. The judging panel said "the winning projects set industry standards for excellence and innovation, serving as examples for others to follow."

Intrepid's Responsible Travel Manager, Jane Crouch says "Our focus has always been on creating journeys that give our travellers incredible real life experiences whilst travelling in a sustainable and respectful way. So to have such significant recognition from PATA for our Responsible Travel programme is a really special achievement for us."

From day one, responsible travel has been central to Intrepid's operations. We offer small group adventures throughout Asia, Australasia, Latin America, Africa, the Middle East and Europe - each group averaging just 10 travellers - and featuring mostly public transport and locally-owned hotels and restaurants. Intrepid trips offer fantastic opportunities for travellers to meet and positively interact with local people. Annual trip evaluations are completed on all regular departure trips as a way of benchmarking our economic, physical and social impacts and our safety performance and to identify areas where we may improve.

As part of our commitment to give back to the communities through which we travel, we established The Intrepid Foundation in 2002. Through this initiative our travellers have been able to contribute to improvements in the quality of life of Intrepid Travel's destination communities through support for projects in health care, education, human rights, child welfare and in environmental and wildlife protection.

In the years to come Intrepid's Responsible Travel programme will stretch even further as we strive to become a Carbon Neutral company.

Darrell Wade, Intrepid CEO, says "Climate change is perhaps the greatest challenge the world has ever faced. We believe that as a travel company it is time for us to become a part of the solution, rather than just a part of the problem."

Intrepid would like to thank our travellers and supporters for their generosity and assistance in making The Intrepid Foundation such an effective and beneficial venture for the communities and organizations with which we cooperate.
